| EPIC BUILDINGS J & I VERONA, WISCONSIN |
| We have recently been awarded the fireproofing contract for 2 new buildings, Epic J & I, on Epic's Verona Campus. The wet mix cementitious fireproofing is going to be CAFCO 300 manufactured by Isolatek International. In addition to the wet mix fireproofing there is a large amount of Intumescent Fireproofing as well. Most of the CAFCO WB IV THINFILM intumescent fireproofing will be applied in our own facility in Houghton, Mi.then shipped to the jobsite near Madison, Wi., ready for erection with the rest of the steel. Only minimal work will need to be done on site to touch up the connections etc. that cannot be fireproofed until the steel is bolted or welded together. The structure is a unique combination of steel and heavy timber construction that will highlite the structural steel as well as the timber framing. By fireproofing the steel off site in our shop J.P. Cullen & Sons, the general contractor, will be able to eliminate the need for temporary shelters and temporary heat in order to apply the Intumescent fireproofing. This will allow the finishing trades to get into these areas of the building much sooner than if they had to wait for the fireproofing work to be done in place. The steel is being supplied and fabricated by Le Jeune Steel in Minneapolis, Mn. the shipped to us in Houghton, Mi. for fireproofing. It is then sprayed with WB IV SPRAYFILM for 1&2 Hr. ratings. Because the steel is going to be exposed to the weather during erection and enclosure of the building, we are protecting the WB IV with CAFCO TOPSEAL waterbased epoxy for a durable exterior finish. In actualty, with this system the steel could be left exposed to the weather permanently. In some cases the steel brackets and saddle connections for the heavy timber framing will be treated with the same material for a permanent exterior application. Due to the fact that the steel erection and enclosure work is going to be done primarily in the winter, we are also going to be using CAFCO BOARD rigid fire proofing on the perimeter steel beams and columns. This allows the complete erection and exterior closure to be completed without having to shelter and heat for spraying fireproofing in the field. Again because of single source availability of all types of fireproofing products from CAFCO we are able to help expedite the project and save the customer both time and money.
